While a Reddit user discovered "Sentinels" as a potential replacement name for the Washington football team, the nickname already has significance in D.C. sports.
Dan Snyder and the Washington football team could be bringing back a name to the city that first gained traction in 2000 when the movie "The Replacements" starring Keanu Reeves hit the big screen.
The movie's plot is centered around a fictional professional football league that is hit with a players' strike mid-season. In response, the Washington Sentinels' owner decides his team and the others will complete the season with replacement players. The team's coach agrees to take on the challenge, knowing he will have to win three of the final four games to make the playoffs.

The blockbuster is loosely based on the 1987 NFL strike, specifically how Washington responded. The team won all three games with its replacement players that season before going on to win Super Bowl XXII.
Many fans were quick to jump on the Sentinels bandwagon, claiming they'd want the movie's star quarterback Shane Falco (played by Reeves) to take over the starting role in Washington if the name is chosen.
