WFT cuts kicker Hopkins, signs Blewitt from practice squad originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington
The Washington Football Team has released veteran kicker Dustin Hopkins and signed Chris Blewitt off the practice squad, the team announced Wednesday.

Hopkins has spent seven seasons in Washington since making his NFL debut in 2015, converting 84% of his field goal attempts. He entered the year with his job status in doubt after a down year in 2020 and a shaky preseason.
In 14 attempts this season, the Florida State product had converted 12 field goals with each miss coming on kicks over 40 yards. Hopkins also missed two extra points, however, both of which were in Washington’s 34-30 win over the Atlanta Falcons in Week 4.
Washington will now go into its Week 7 game against the Green Bay Packers with Blewitt handling field goals and kickoffs. Blewitt, an Alexandria, Va. native who went to West Potomac High, has never appeared in an NFL game but played four seasons from 2013 to 2016 at Pitt, where he stands as the program’s all-time leader in field goals and extra points converted.
Blewitt recently worked out for the Indianapolis Colts before Washington brought him back to its practice squad and then tabbed him as Hopkins' replacement.
