Westbrook is progressing, but won't play Friday vs. Bucks originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington
Though their plans were delayed by a few days, the Wizards medical staff re-evaluated Russell Westbrook's sore quadriceps muscle this week and cleared him to resume basketball activities.
He was out on the court Wednesday night at the team's practice facility in Southeast Washington, though according to head coach Scott Brooks, it was light work.
"He’s progressing into basketball activities. He did a little bit today," Brooks said. "I don’t know when he will play, but he’s definitely progressing in the right direction. He’s feeling good."
Westbrook, 32, first suffered the injury in training camp and re-aggravated it at least twice during games when colliding with other players. Brooks said he will not be available for Friday's game against the Bucks, which would be the Wizards' first since last Monday due to an outbreak of the coronavirus.
Westbrook will travel with the Wizards on their road trip which goes from Milwaukee to San Antonio and then to Houston to see the Rockets, the team that traded him to Washington. As for when he will next appear in a game, Brooks isn't sure yet.
"We’re in no rush. We will wait until he’s 100 percent ready to play," he said.
Westbrook is averaging 19.3 points, 11.3 assists and 9.7 rebounds through seven games this season.
