Report: Wes Unseld Jr. a Leading Candidate for Wizards Head Coach Opening

Report: Wes Unseld Jr. a leading candidate for Wizards job originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington

The Orlando Magic are reportedly closing in on Mavericks assistant Jamahl Mosley for their head coach opening in a move that could have a significant impact in the Wizards' search for Scott Brooks' replacement.

ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported Thursday that the Mavericks' search came down to two candidates: Mosley and Nuggets associate head coach Wes Unseld Jr.

Both Unseld and Mosley had interviewed for the Wizards' job in recent weeks, and per Woj, Unseld is considered one of the leading candidates to become Washington's next head coach.

Mosley had also reportedly become a finalist for the Wizards job, but appears to be closing in on his first head coaching opportunity in the NBA elsewhere.

Unseld has been an assistant coach in the NBA since 2005, when he got his start in the league with the Wizards. His recent stops include the Warriors (2011-12), the Magic (2011-15) and the Nuggets (2015-present). Unseld is also the son of Bullets legend Wes Unseld, who led the franchise to its first and only championship in 1978.

Should the Magic and Mosley finalize an agreement, the Wizards would be one of two remaining head coach openings along with the Pelicans.
