Redwolves, Monarchs and More: WFT Fans Asked for More Input on Team Name

Monarchs? Aviators? WFT fans asked for more input on name originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington

As the Washington Football Team continues its rebrand, team president Jason Wright sent a letter to ticketholders with a survey attached of multiple potential new team names, asking them to choose which two names they most prefer.

"We want to ask all of YOU for your input on what kinds of names are meaningful to you -- which concepts represent what you love about this organization and what this team means for you," Wright wrote.

In two survey documents obtained by NBC Sports Washington, names such as the Aviators, Wild Hogs, Presidents, Capital City Football Club, Ambassadors, Monarchs, Riders, Redwolves, Wayfares, Griffins, Warriors, Armada, Rising, Swifts, Commanders, Pilots, Rubies, Renegades and DC Football Club were all listed as potential options.

As Wright noted in his letter, each fan received a different sample size of potential names - meaning there were multiple other potential monikers listed outside of these two documents.

The team president also made sure to make it clear that these surveys are not a vote, rather they are "an opportunity to capture insights and perspective that will be so important to this next phase of our rebrand journey."

Additionally, Wright has repeatedly said that the team's temporary name, Washington Football Team, is also in contention to be the team's permanent name, too. The franchise will play the 2021 season under this current name as well.

In March, Washington announced that they had received over 15,000 submissions of potential rebrand ideas from six different continents and over 60 countries through the website WashingtonJourney.com, a site designed to allow fans to share their input on the rebranding process.

Washington retired its old name and logo in July 2020.
