Stephen Strasburg is home resting following his Aug. 26 surgery for carpal tunnel neuritis.
Davey Martinez said Wednesday that Strasburg is expected to have his sutures removed next week. Then, the right-hander will be reevaluated.
For now, the Nationals don’t have a timeline for when Strasburg can return to throwing.
“He’s working out whenever he can,” Martinez said. “He’s got an unbelievable gym in his house and he’s having [team physical therapist Seth Blee] come over to help him. He’s working out the best he can. He’s not going to throw here, I assume, for a while.”
Strasburg pitched just five total innings this season because a wrist impingement was causing a nerve problem in his right hand. Strasburg’s right thumb would tingle or go numb while he was asleep, as well as on the mound.
He was placed on the 60-day injured list Aug. 22, all but ending his 2020 season.
Strasburg signed a seven-year, $245 million contract in the offseason.
