Jamin Davis to wear No. 52 in Washington originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington
If anyone was looking to buy a jersey of the Washington Football Team's first-round selection Jamin Davis but was waiting for an announcement on what number he'll wear, they can officially add it to their cart.
Davis took to Twitter on Friday and tweeted out the No. 52, hinting that he would don those digits in burgundy and gold. The No. 19 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft then shared a first-look of his new threads on his Instagram story.

Davis wore the No. 44 during his time at the University of Kentucky, a number that remains close to his heart since it represents the age his grandmother passed away. However, 44 is a number that hasn't been worn in Washington since John Riggins was on the team in the 70s and 80s. Though it is not officially retired, it's a number that is viewed as out of circulation.
Therefore, Davis looked elsewhere for his number and landed on 52. Why? He told the media on Friday that he wore No. 25 when he played football as a kid and he decided to flip those around and go with a more traditional number for linebackers.
The linebacker had a vast array of options, with the new NFL rule allowing linebackers to wear any number from 1-59 and 90-99. Still, it was 52 that felt like the perfect fit.

That number is one that doesn't have a ton of history in Washington. The likes of Rocky McIntosh, Terence Garvin, Keenan Robinson and Cory Raymer are some of the names to wear it over the years. Linebacker Ryan Anderson had the number from 2017-2020.
Now, Davis will have a chance to make his own legacy with No. 52 in Washington.
