It's Still September, But Some NFL Fanbases Are Already Eyeing Trevor Lawrence

Fans of multiple NFL teams are already begging for Trevor Lawrence originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington

For the third consecutive week, Sunday afternoon was filled with a full slate of NFL games.

And also for the third consecutive Sunday, Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence was trending on Twitter.

No, Lawrence hasn't played in any games on Sundays, as both of Clemson's matchups this season have been played during the traditional college football Saturday slot. He hasn't done anything off the field to warrant the number of tweets posted with his name in them, either.

But with the 20-year-old passer expected to be the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, fans of struggling franchises have already tossed in the towel in the current season with the hope of their team having the opportunity to select Lawrence next April.

Fans of the Washington Football Team also got in the 'Tank for Trevor' action this week following quarterback Dwayne Haskins' three-interception outing versus Cleveland.

Despite Haskins' rough performance Sunday, head coach Ron Rivera had the back of his second-year quarterback.

"I just got done talking to Dwayne," Rivera said Sunday. "I told him, 'I'm behind you and I'm going to stick with you. So you go and play football.'"

While Rivera may support Haskins now, the second-year QB simply can't have outings like he did against Cleveland moving forward. Otherwise, Washington may be in a position to select Lawrence come next year's draft, an opportunity that many believe would be too good to pass up.
