Ryan Zimmerman’s bookcase features an assortment of baseball awards and memorabilia he’s collected over the years, including his Gold Glove and Silver Slugger awards, an impressive number of bobbleheads and several champagne bottles from past locker room celebrations.
However, there was one thing missing — until now.
Ryan Zimmerman’s wife, Heather, posted a video on Thursday of the Nationals infielder opening a replica World Series trophy and placing it on his bookshelf. It’s been a little over a year since the Nationals beat the Houston Astros in seven games to win the 2019 World Series, but Zimmerman’s final addition to his collection was well worth the wait.
The collection is certainly impressive, rivaling that of fellow D.C. sports icon Alex Ovechkin. While the nod probably goes to Ovechkin for having an entire attic full of jerseys and memorabilia, both collections would keep any D.C. sports fan busy for a while with how many items they’ve each included.
Zimmerman, 36, didn’t play in 2020 after opting out due to concerns over playing amid the pandemic. He’s currently a free agent but has stated his desire to only play for the Nationals the rest of his career. Washington has yet to sign a first baseman this offseason and a reunion between the two sides remains in play.
