Laviolette shares advice with Caps prospects at rookie camp originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington
The Capitals got their first look at several of their top prospects this weekend, hosting rookie camp at MedStar IcePlex from Saturday through Monday after coronavirus restrictions cancelled the sessions last season.
Twenty of the Capitals’ best young NHL hopefuls were in attendance. Among the biggest names were Connor McMichael, who led the Hershey Bears with 14 goals last season, and 2020 first-round pick Hendrix Lapierre. Head coach Peter Laviolette addressed the prospects Saturday before camp got underway and gave some advice on how they should approach their craft.

“I have two boys that are your age,” Laviolette said. “If I was going to give them advice as they’re coming into a training camp like this I’d tell them, first and foremost, be the hardest worker every day. You can control that. You can control how much you put in and how hard you work every day. The next thing I would say to them is be a good person. Be a good teammate. Be good to the people you’re working with.”
After wrapping up rookie camp Monday, the Capitals will have the day off Tuesday before the team’s veterans report to the Arlington, Virginia, practice facility for physicals and off-ice testing. Training camp will officially begin Thursday with fans permitted to attend.
