Bradley Beal Had a Historically Bad Shooting Half Vs. Heat

Beal had a historically bad shooting half vs. Heat originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington

Bradley Beal couldn't buy a bucket in the first half against the Heat Friday night.

The NBA's leading scorer only scored four points in the first two frames, going 0-for-12 from the field for the Wizards. Over the last 25 years, only one player has ever missed that many shots in a half, per ESPN Stats and Info. Former top-three pick OJ Mayo did it in his rookie year playing for the Grizzlies.

Beal is also the first Wizards player in the last 25 years to go 0-for-10 or more in a half.

It was an ugly start for Beal and the Wizards, who trailed Miami by 28 at the start of the third quarter. Beal has had a few bad halves before heating up and eventually getting 20-plus points, but he's obviously never done something like this.

Part of it could be fatigue after playing his eighth game in two weeks, but it could also be attributed to the Heat's defensive scheme. Miami was throwing two and sometimes three defenders at Beal whenever he came off a screen or dribble hand-off.

Beal ended up starting 0-for-13 from the field before hitting a three within the first three minutes of the second half Friday night.
