Edwards Knocked Out Early Against Cards

Trent Edwards J.P. Losman

On the first drive of today's Cardinals game, Adrian Wilson came unblocked off the corner on a safety blitz. Edwards got rid of the ball in time, but Wilson was close enough to lift him off the ground and drive him to turf on his right shoulder. Edwards was attended to on the field for a couple of minutes, then immediately driven by a cart to the locker room. The initial report is that he is being treated for a concussion.

Losman, the only first-round quarterback from 2004 who hasn't become a consistent starter, may have some experience, but he didn't inspire a lot of confidence in his first couple of snaps. On his second play from scrimmage he fumbled. The Cardinals recovered and scored six plays later to take a 7-0 lead. But he did recover to throw an 87-yard touchdown to Lee Evans early in the second quarter.

In only his second season, Edwards has been remarkably efficient. His quarterback rating ranked ninth in the league coming into today, and he has thrown for at least 197 yards in each of his last three starts.
