Redskins Bring Back Suisham

Skins counting on kicker to be better

The three members left of the Shaun Suisham Fan Club can rejoice.  The Redskins kicker looks like he'll be back again next season after signing his one-year, $1.01 million tender offer.

Suisham had a terrible season last year.  PlayerHatersBall points out that Swishy had the worst success rate of the 32 kickers who had more than 10 attempts last season.

$1 million for that?  Even the AIG boys would be ashamed of that track record.

At least Swishy realizes he had problems last year.  He said, "[L]ast year was pretty frustrating. I can make up all the excuses in the world. They really mean nothing."

OK, so excuses don't matter.

What's that?  He continued?  "I had some difficulty adjusting to [holder Ryan Plackemeier]."

Oh, so it's Muffintop's fault.

At least the Skins  brought someone in to challenge him, right?

They brought in the incomparable Dave Rayner.  Who?

The former sixth-round pick has bounced around with five teams in four years, which is usually the sign of someone who's Suishamian in his abilities.

He's supposedly a strong kicker-offer -- something that Suisham wasn't especially strong at.

And he's ready for blood, telling the Times, "I'm ready to find the right place and the right coaching staff. Shaun didn't have a great season this past season, but I've had a bad season, too. I want it to be a good competition and may the best man win."

But between a career journeyman and Suisham, is there really a winner?

Chris Needham used to write Capitol Punishment.  He'd be willing to leave kicks short for a fraction of the cost.
