Carol Schwartz' effort to retain a seat on the D.C. Council failed Tuesday.
Schwartz mounted a write-in campaign for an at-large seat after she was defeated in the Republican primary in September by Patrick Mara. However, Mara did not prevail, either.
The two candidates selected to represent the council at-large are incumbent Kwame Brown and newcomer Michael Brown. They will be sworn in on Jan. 2.
