Top Footwear Trends for Fall '13

This fall, little black booties got a makeover with fierce pointy toes, and techie platforms stepped into the future rendered in stark black and white.

The reign of the little black bootie is still going strong for fall '13. At Altuzarra, shiny patent booties with buckled ankle straps were finished with an edgy pointy toe.

Similarly, Band of Outsiders' toughened up soft, draped evening looks with ferocious pointy black boots featuring a long front zipper.

One budding trend on the fall '13 catwalks was white-and-black footwear. These ankle booties from Helmut Lang featured shiny black cap toes, a look that harks back to the spats of the 19th and early 20th centuries.

Rodarte's sporty-chic two-tone platforms had just the right amount of '80s appeal, with shiny black accents wrapped around the outer sole.

Similarly, Ohne Titel accented their futuristic-looking black and white ankle boots with quilted sections in olive drab.

Clunky open-toe boots cropped up on a number of catwalks this season, including Kenneth Cole, who added a subtle lace-up detail just below the knee.

Phillip Lim had the most dramatic take on the open-toe boot trend. His giant over-the-knee versions featured not one, but two straps across the front of the foot, and the leather is cut with just the slightest suggestion of slouch.
Prabal Gurung was also digging the over-the-knee boot trend for fall, and executed his version with a slim stiletto heel and slashed cut-outs for an alluring, if vaguely menacing, effect.

Ladylike footwear a la Marie Antoinette was a major trend this past fall, and unsurprisingly, the look cropped up again for fall at Christian Siriano, where dainty gold kitten heels were finished with bronze metallic appliques.
