Five years ago, an Australian visionary looked into the future and saw two things: a healthier life for men and an upper lip bedecked in hair. This visionary was Adam Garone and his gift to mankind across the globe: Movember.
Movember is November… with a twist. It uses the fun of growing a moustache (mo’ is Aussie slang for ‘stache) as a way to raise awareness about men’s health issues.
In general, men are less healthy than women. They have a life expectancy about five years shorter. By becoming more aware of health issues facing them, men can take steps to live healthier lives.
This year Movember is partnering with the Prostate Cancer Foundation to raise funds for research. Aside from skin cancer, prostate cancer is the most common cancer in the U.S. (Correction) According to the Prostate Cancer Foundation, approximately 186,000 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer this year. Annually approximately 28,000 die from the disease.
No matter what health issue you may be dealing with, curious about, afraid of… take the first step of educating yourself, becoming more aware, and growing a mo’.
Change the face of men’s health… starting with your own.
(And check back with us... we'll be gathering photos of your 'staches for the site!)
