Pope Francis Names New Cardinals

Pope Francis named 15 new cardinals on Sunday, drawing on more than a dozen countries — many of them in the developing world — for a new crop of leaders who will help define the direction of the Catholic Church in years to come. The newly selected leaders, who hail from far-flung locales including Vietnam, Tonga, Myanmar and Ethiopia, "manifest the indissoluble links between the Church of Rome and the particular Churches present in the world," the pontiff said. The 15 archbishops and bishops are set to be installed as cardinals at a ceremony on February 14.
