A woman has died after she was pulled from the water near The Wharf in Southwest D.C. Wednesday night.
Witnesses told authorities they saw the woman go into the water near the District Pier at the Wharf, but she didn't surface.
It's not clear if she purposely went into the water or fell.
Divers searched for the woman for 25 minutes and pulled her out of the water. Medics then took her to George Washington University hospital in critical condition, fire officials say.
D.C. police confirmed her death Thursday morning. They said foul play was not suspected at this point.
Her name is being withheld until her family is notified.
Photos posted to Twitter by D.C. Fire and EMS on Wednesday night appeared to show more than a dozen firefighters and officers at a dock. Police and fire boat crews responded.
