Driver Killed After Being Swept Away in Patuxent River Identified

A body has been recovered in the search for the driver of a pickup truck found in the Patuxent River.

Search teams found the body Wednesday afternoon. He was identified as Rene Dimanche Jr., 47, of Waldorf, Maryland.

A witness had seen Dimanche's truck attempt to drive through a flooded section of the 8200 block of Brock Bridge Road near Dorsey Run, which feeds into the Patuxent. The witness said the truck floated up and spun in the current, before it was swept off the left shoulder of the road into the water.

Crews searched the area periodically throughout the day, but didn't find anything. But just before 11 p.m., Anne Arundel County police officers who were responding to a missing person call found the truck about 150 feet south of the bridge.

Dimanche's body was found several hundred yards downstream.

Overnight rain left the Patuxent River swollen, prompting a flash flood warning for a short time Tuesday morning. When the truck was found Tuesday night, flood waters in the area had receded 15 feet.
