All Lanes Reopen After Deadly Tractor-Trailer Crash Closed Beltway

Police have identified the driver as 47-year-old Dennis Frampton.

A tractor-trailer overturned on the Capital Beltway early Friday, killing the driver and leading to hours-long lane closures.

Both loops of the Beltway were closed for much of the morning commute. All lanes had reopened by late Friday morning, about five and a half hours after the crash.

Police say 47-year-old Dennis Leroy Frampton was traveling on the outer loop near Connecticut Avenue when his tractor-trailer overturned onto its side just before 5 a.m. The truck's cab crashed into the jersey wall, crushing a portion of the cab and spilling the contents of the trailer onto the inner loop.

Police say Frampton of Halethorpe, Maryland, was ejected and unconscious when authorities arrived at the scene. He  was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

The crash ruptured the truck's fuel tanks, spilling fuel onto the roadway.

There's no word on what cause the truck to overturn.
