Thieves Steal 50 Gucci Handbags From Store in CityCenter DC, Police Say

Thieves got away with 50 pricey handbags from the shelves at a downtown Gucci store, D.C. police say.

Surveillance video provided by police shows someone sweeping bags off a shelf at the upscale store, located on I Street NW at CityCenterDC. The crime happened about 4 a.m. Tuesday, police said.

A witness told police he saw two people forcing their way through the front door of the Gucci store and stealing a large number of items, according to a police report. The witness said the two suspects then ran from the store and got into a black Jeep Cherokee with dark tinted windows. The Jeep headed south on 10th Street.

Another witness said he was parked in front of the Gucci store and saw the Jeep Cherokee park behind his vehicle, according to police. He saw the two suspects get out of the Jeep and rush toward the store. The witness said he left the area out of safety concerns.

Police said they're looking for three people of interest in the crime, as well as the Jeep.
