Teen Charged as Adult in Stabbing of Father
HometownAnnapolis: "A 17-year-old Eagle Scout was charged with attempted murder after stabbing his father during a family argument last night, county police said. Police said Allen Shank was charged as an adult after officers found his injured father lying in the front yard of their Pasadena home at 8:30 p.m. Police said the 50-year-old man and his son got into a heated argument and the son grabbed a knife and stabbed his father several times. Shank was an honor student at Chesapeake High School. He graduated this spring, school officials confirmed this morning. He earned his Eagle Scout rank with Boy Scout Troop 346 of Pasadena United Methodist Church in 2009."
Washington Homes Buck National Housing Price Decline
Washington Post: "The Washington metropolitan area was the only place in the country where prices went up over the past year, with a 1.3 percent increase. Minneapolis saw the largest decrease in home prices, down 11.7 percent since last May. The report, released Tuesday morning, found that home prices increased for the second month in a row in the report’s 10- and 20-city estimates — up 1.1 percent to 153.64 and 1 percent to 139.87, respectively. Compared to last year, however, the 10-city composite index fell 3.6 percent, while the 20-city composite was down 4.5 percent."
DC Planning Director Hit by a Car
Washington City Paper: "Office of Planning director Harriet Tregoning is one of the most stalwart bike commuters in District government, making the trip from her Columbia Heights rowhouse to 1100 4th Street SW most days on a foldable Brompton bike, wearing a helmet and sensible shoes. So far, she's gone without major incident, except for catching her wheels in some of the metal ruts that run down 9th Street. But accidents happen to the safest of cyclists, and one struck around 9:00 a.m. this morning as she was heading south around Mt. Vernon Square, in the form of a Maryland driver who sideswiped her while running a red light on Massachusetts Avenue. "She was shaken up and very apologetic," Tregoning says. She flagged down a police officer, but decided not to press charges. "I basically told her, never run a red light in the District again!"

The city was chosen for its cheap housing, affordable tax rates, low cost of living and ideal lifestyle. Sally Coates, executive director of the Winchester-Frederick County Visitor Center, says she was blown away when she heard the news. "It's very nice to know that other officials from around the country are taking notice of our community and all of the wonderful attributes that our community has," she says."
