A suspect was shot after fleeing and confronting police in Fauquier County on Friday afternoon.
The Fauquier County Sheriff’s Office said a deputy spotted a man involved in criminal activity near Comfort Inn Drive and Lee Highway in Warrenton, Virginia. The suspect fled after the deputy tried to stop him.
Police said the suspect lost control of his vehicle along Blackwell Road and struck a tree. The man then fled on foot.
A K-9 team was brought in to help search for the suspect and found him hiding behind a house in the 6400 block of Appomattox Drive. During this confrontation, a deputy fired his weapon, striking the suspect.
The man was taken to INOVA Fairfax Hospital. His condition is not known at this time.
At the request of the sheriff, the Virginia State Police is handing the investigation of the shooting.
