The suspect in a domestic incident in Howard County is in the hospital following a police-involved shooting in Gaithersburg.
Around 10 p.m. Sunday, Howard County police called police in Montgomery County to inform them that the suspect in a domestic incident may be in the Kentlands area. Officers were told the suspect may have a gun and could be driving a Ford Explorer.
The suspect's SUV was spotted leaving a home in the 14000 block of Quince Orchard Road just before 11:30 p.m. The officers initiated a traffic stop a short time later in the intersection of Quince Orchard Road and Darnestown Road.
As they approached the vehicle, they saw a shotgun in the suspect's SUV. At one point during the traffic stop, one of the officers shot the driver in the arm and leg. The suspect then took off, crashing his car just over a mile away at the intersection of Great Seneca Road and Quince Orchard Road.
Police say the suspect did not discharge his weapon during the traffic stop.
He was transported to an area hospital, where he is in stable condition.
The suspect hit another car when he crashed, but that driver was not injured.
