Strong storms swept through the D.C. area Tuesday morning, leaving downed trees and wires in their wake.
The storms have pushed east, but MARC Train 841 temporarily stopped just north of Dorsey after striking a downed tree. Riders were told to expect 15-minute delay while crews inspected the equipment.
Thousands of lightning strikes were reported during the height of the storms. Authorities will investigate whether lightning was the cause of an early-morning house fire in Howard County.
About 500 customers in northern Montgomery County lost power.
in Leesburg, Edwards Ferry Road NE is closed between Woodberry Drive NE and Market Street due to downed wires.
Also in Leesburg, tree limbs and debris are reported on Roxbury Hall Road at Sunrise View Court.
In Damascus, tree limbs are down on Kings Valley Road at Hailey Drive.
