Stafford County Man Pleads Guilty in $600,000 Tax Fraud Case

A Stafford County man faces up to 11 years in prison after pleading guilty to charges stemming from a $600,000 tax fraud scheme.

Daniel L. Jones also faces $750,000 in fines.

Media outlets report that Jones, 56, pleaded guilty Tuesday to aiding in the preparation of fraudulent tax returns for clients and making a false statement to the Internal Revenue Service.

Sentencing is set for Aug. 21 in U.S. District Court in Richmond.

According to court documents, Jones ran a tax preparation service called Tax Doctor Plus in the Fredericksburg area. He prepared fraudulent returns for clients between 2009 and 2012 to increase their tax refunds, and falsely told the IRS that he was a certified public accountant.
