The Metro red line is no longer single tracking between Friendship Heights and Van Ness stations after smoke was reported Wednesday in the Tenleytown station.
Riders were cleared Wednesday from the Tenleytown Metro station after reports of smoke, said a NBC employee at the scene. At least four fire engines reported to the scene.
The issue was due to an arcing insulator, Metro sources said. An arcing insulator happens when “an insulator along the third rail that may be giving off sparks or smoke,” according to the Metro website.
Fire department activity was also reported at the Friendship Heights station, Metro tweeted.
