Investigators in Stafford County are working to identify skeletal remains that were found in a wooded area this weekend.

Two bow hunters found the human skull and bones in a wooded area off of Mine Road near Highpointe Boulevard Sunday evening.

The remains have been in the area for a long time, the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office said.

Once investigators clear the scene, the remains will be sent to the Medical Examiner's Office in Richmond for identification and cause of death.

No further details have been released.
