A member of the Navy stationed in Virginia has been missing for a week and was last seen in Yosemite National Park in California.
Alexander Joseph Sevier, 24, was last seen in Yosemite Valley on the morning of May 3, two days after he'd arrived in the park, the National Park Service (NPS) said on Facebook.
Sevier is a hospitalman at the Navy Medical Center (NMCP) in Portsmouth, Virginia.
"Please keep NMCP's HN Sevier in your thoughts and prayers that he is found safe and sound," the center posted on Facebook. "Thank you to Yosemite National Park for doing it all can to find our Sailor."
Sevier traveled to Yosemite alone and was staying at Housekeeping Camp, according to the NPS. Neighbors in the camp told park rangers that he went out for day hikes alone each day and would return in the evening, the NPS said.
Rangers were searching for him on and around popular hiking trails in the area, such as the Upper Yosemite Fall Trail and the Mist Trail, the NPS posted Monday. Trained dogs and a helicopter from the California Highway Patrol were also involved in the search.
