Md. Teacher, Richard Shemer, Pleads Guilty to Sex Abuse of Former Student

A Montgomery County high school teacher pleaded guilty Thursday to one count of child sex abuse.

Police say Richard Brian Shemer, 50, and the victim developed a close relationship during the 2012-2013 school year at Albert Einstein High School in Kensington. The victim stopped by Shemer's classroom some time last year, and the two allegedly had a conversation about sex that continued via email outside the school.

The victim's parents saw the emails and called police.

Shemer was arrested last October at his home in Potomac, Md., and charged with one count of sex abuse of minor.

Shemer was a social studies teacher at the school, according to the high school's website. He has been an MCPS employee since Aug. 21, 2002, and has also taught at Cabin John Middle School and Rockville High School.

He could face up to five years behind bars when he's sentenced in June.
