Prince George's County Public Schools Showcases Specialty Programs, Career Academies, Public Charter Schools

The Prince George’s County Public School System is presenting a smattering of its academic offerings, just in time for the 2014-2015 lottery season.

In Greenbelt, parents and students have the opportunity to meet with school leaders representing the county’s specialty programs, career academies and charter institutions. That includes visual and performing arts, architecture, media, aviation, science and tech, hospitality, French immersion, International Baccalaureate, healthcare, and more.

“This is a one-stop shop, where parents can come, the community can come, and see the whole buffet of choices we have, either for application purposes or lottery,“ PGCPS spokesman Max Pugh said. “This event is essentially different from the Back to School Fair.”

The event gives parents and students the opportunity to jump start the lottery process. The PGCPS charter school lottery gets under way Friday.

Specialty programs, like French immersion and montessori -- two of the county’s most popular programs -- begin accepting applications Jan. 1.

School administrators will be on hand to answer questions about student eligibility, test-in programs and how school boundaries affect program choice.

The event runs until 9 p.m. at Eleanor Roosevelt High School, 7601 Hanover Parkway, Greenbelt, Md.
