Police are investigating a bizarre set of circumstances that led to a man's death early Thursday morning.
At around 2:30 a.m., someone called police to report a suspicious person in the area of Jefferson Davis Highway and Gordon Boulevard in Woodbridge, Va. The caller said an unknown man had jumped out of a third-floor window at the Inns of Virginia hotel on Annapolis Way, Prince William County Police said. The man landed on the hood of a vehicle in the parking lot.
He then reportedly ran down Jefferson Davis Highway. The man tried to run into traffic several times until police encountered him near Occoquan Road. Police detained him until Fire and Rescue could get there, according to a police press release.
As medics were arriving on scene, the man lost consciousness. He was transported to the hospital where he died, police say.
Police are withholding the man's identity until his family is notified. They have said he is a 47-year-old man from Lake Ridge, Va.
