Police Academy Locked Down After Driver Opens Fire on I-295

The Metropolitan Police Department training facility was locked down Monday afternoon after a driver on I-295 fired at another car.

The driver fired about 12 p.m. near Exit 1 in Southwest D.C., and then fled into a wooded area close to the police facility.

The MPD facility was locked down as police searched for the shooter. He was not found, an MPD representative said.

Information on whether anyone was injured by the gunfire wasn't immediately available.

Two men were shot near Exit 1 the morning of May 28, killing a 50-year-old Alexandria resident and injuring his brother-in-law.
