Overturned Dump Truck on I-695 Backs Up Traffic for Miles

An overturned dump truck on Interstate 695 before the Interstate 295 split caused massive delays during the Thursday evening rush. The scene has since been cleared and all lanes are open.

The truck overturned about 2 p.m. Thursday, spilling dirt and rocks across the highway. D.C.'s Department of Public Works responded to the scene of the crash.

All eastbound lanes were blocked on the ramp toward southbound I-295, D.C. police tweeted.

WTOP previously reported heavy traffic along Interstate 395, stretching back to exit 8C in the Pentagon City area of Arlington, Virginia. Traffic has since improved, but delays remain in the area of the accident, according to WTOP
