A Montgomery County correctional officer has been arrested for sex offenses committed against a pre-trial services inmate, police said.
Jereme Keith Simmons, 32 of Laurel, was working as a correctional officer for the Montgomery County Department of Corrections when he had inappropriate contact with a 26-year-old woman who was awaiting trial, police said.
The victim was not incarcerated, but was under the supervision of the Department of Corrections as she completed community service for a previous criminal charge.
Montgomery County Police say that on June 9, Simmons was overseeing pre-trial inmates who were assigned to perform community service at a Department of General Service warehouse. Around 1 p.m., the victim asked to use the restroom.
Police say Simmons entered the bathroom and assaulted her.
The victim told authorities that Simmons offered to sign off on her remaining community service hours if they had sexual contact again in the future.
Detectives from the Special Victims Investigations Division were alerted to the allegations June 22. Three days later, they set up a meeting between the victim and Simmons.
