Man Could Get 140 Years in Activist's Murder

A 27-year-old man could face up to 140 years behind bars for his role in the 2011 murder of a well-known community activist.

Alexandria, Va. resident Lenwood Harris was found dead inside a well near an abandoned Fort Washington, Md. home in January 2012. A few months earlier, three men had kidnapped and robbed him, then shot him and dumped his body inside a well. Police didn't find the body until they received an anonymous phone call last year.

Tyrone Lewis, 27, was convicted Tuesday of first-degree murder in the case, as well as kidnapping, robbery and use of a handgun in a crime.

His co-defendents, Linwood Johnson and Ivan Newman were also convicted and are awaiting sentencing.
