A 59-year-old man is accused of picking up a 12-year-old girl in Wheaton, Maryland, and sexually assaulting her, police say.
The girl told detectives she was walking home from school during a thunderstorm on Thursday when the suspect, 59-year-old James Allen Booker, pulled up and asked her if she wanted a ride home, according to Montgomery County police.
She accepted his offer, got into his vehicle and gave the man her home address, police said. The girl didn't previously know the suspect, police said.
Police said Booker parked his car in front of the girl's home and then sexually assaulted her. He then let the girl get out of the vehicle.
The girl told a parent about the incident, who called police.
Police arrested Booker at his place of employment on Tuesday and charged him with second-degree rape and third-degree sex offense.
