LSU Student From DC Found Dead in Dorm Room

The college freshman's cause of death is unknown

Family and friends in D.C. are mourning the sudden loss of a teen who was found dead inside her dorm room at Louisiana State University on Tuesday.

Marakah Dennis, 18, was a freshman at LSU and was originally from D.C. She recently graduated from St. John's College High School, a private Catholic school in Northwest D.C.

Police found Dennis dead inside her dorm room Tuesday afternoon. Her cause of death is unknown at this time as authorities in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, await the coroner's toxicology report.

"I don't think it's still hit me. Still walking around in a daze. You know, when you text your daughter she'll never text back or call back," her father Mitchel Dennis said.

Marakah's family and friends gathered at a softball field in D.C. on Saturday to remember her. She played for years with DC Elite Softball and she was known for her positive energy.

"Rocky just gave from her heart. Gave everything, no matter what it was. On her worst day, she would give me everything she had and she gave everything, more importantly, to the people around her," DC Elite Softball coach Harry Thomas Jr. said.

Marakah's friends say she excelled at a variety of extracurricular activities, including joining ROTC, working as a lifeguard, writing for the high school newspaper and volunteering with young kids.
