Large Fire Sends Plumes of Black Smoke Into Air in DC

A large fire in Northwest Washington sent plumes of black smoke billowing into the air Thursday afternoon. 

Firefighters were called to a 4-story building on the 1300 block of Q Street NW just before noon Thursday. When they arrived, they found heavy fire coming from the roof of the building. 

Black smoke from the fire could be seen across the city. 

Fire officials say the fire was extinguished in 20 minutes. 

One firefighter suffered minor injuries. Several apartments were also damaged in the fire. 

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
