Santa Claus and the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department visited patients at Inova Children’s Hospital Thursday, delivering presents and an early Christmas.
Mason Whitten knew exactly what he wanted.
“To end cancer,” he told Santa.
“Oh man, me too,” Santa said. “Me too.”
Mason was diagnosed with leukemia in second grade. He’s been in and out of the hospital for almost four years.
“I’m tired of having cancer,” he said. “I can’t really see my friends as much because I can’t go to school as much.”
But he’s kept up with school and always made the honor roll.

“My kid is amazing,” his dad said. “I’ll be honest, he is just awesome. He’s my hero.”
“I realized that I need to do what I need to do,” Mason said. “I need to let the doctors help me.”
