Higher Fares for Fairfax County Connector Riders

First increase since 2004

Starting Jan. 4, if you use a Smartrip card, the cost to ride the Fairfax County Connector increases from $1 to $1.25.

If you use cash, the price is rising from $1 to $1.35.

Passengers using Smartrip cards will receive discounts transferring from bus to rail, but people paying cash will pay full fare as paper transfers are eliminated.

Transportation officials said the hope is that passengers will board quicker and have fewer delays using Smartrip instead of cash.

Metro also plans to eliminate paper transfers.

The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors approved the increase Monday. It's the first Fairfax County Connector fare increase since 2004.
