Strong Storms Bring Heavy Rain, Strong Gusts, Lightning and Hail

Strong storms from the north moved through the D.C. area Saturday evening bringing periods of heavy rain, hail, strong winds and a lot of lightning.

All severe thunderstorm warnings for the area have been canceled or expired, as has a tornado watch that covered parts of Maryland, including Anne Arundel County.

A severe thunderstorm watch is now only in effect Calvert, Charles and St. Mary's counties in southern Maryland until 11 p.m.

Storm Team4 declared a Weather Alert for the evening until 10 p.m.

The storms produced gusts exceeding 60 mph and quarter-to-golf-ball-size hail in places.

Mother's Day will be cloudy with a chance for scattered showers and possibly isolated thunderstorms.

Sunday's temperatures will be interesting with areas north of D.C. in the 60s and 70s; D.C. could end up in the 70s, possibly close to 80; and highs south of the District will be in the low 80s.
