Go Bananas! Quirky Diet Promises Weight Loss

Diet promises no exercise for pounds to melt away

People everywhere are going bananas for a new weight loss craze. It's started in Japan and is now catching on in the United States, and it's called the Banana Diet.

The diet works like this -- eat fresh bananas for breakfast with a glass of water at room temperature. Then have whatever you want for lunch and dinner.

Sounds easy right? But there are just a few more rules. You cannot eat desserts or snacks. No eating after 8 p.m., and you must be in bed before midnight.

Then just watch the pounds come off, without exercise.

But does it really work?

Lisa Drayer, author of โ€œThe Beauty Diet,โ€ says it may work at first because bananas are high in fiber and vitamins and low in calories. She said the fruit is also a good substitute for sugary cereals or bagels and cream cheese for breakfast.

But, Drayer warned there is no such thing as a magic diet, and no substitute for eating right (which means a low-calorie diet) and exercising.
