The 9-year-old girl killed in the shooting that has critically injured Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords was born in Maryland.
Christina Taylor Green was born shortly after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks in 2001. Her father, John Green, is a scout for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Earlier, he was a scout with the Baltimore Orioles and had a family farm in Conowingo, Md.
Christina's mother, Roxanna Green, said Christina was always aware she was born on 9/11 and was very patriotic.
A year after her birth, Christina-Taylor was among the children featured in the book "Faces of Hope: Babies Born on 9/11." It chronicled one baby from each state born on the day terrorists killed almost 3,000 people.
The girl's uncle said a neighbor was going to the Giffords event and invited Christina because she had just been elected to student council and was interested in government, the Arizona Republic reported.
