Former New York Rep. Vito Fossella reported to the Alexandria Detention Center on Friday afternoon. Arriving in a black SUV, wearing a hot pink shirt and designer jeans, Fossella was back in town to serve time at the center after pleading guilty to drunken driving on Monday.
After running a red light in Alexandria last May, an officer discovered the former Staten Island congressman had been drinking and arrested him.
That arrest led to revelations that Fossella had a child from an extra-marital affair, a secret he’d kept from his wife and three kids in New York, and forced him to drop his re-election bid.
Alexandria Sheriff's Office spokesman Harry Covert said Fossella will probably be kept alone in a small white cell with long slits for windows, but may get a roommate if the jail gets crowded. The cell will also have a steel sink and toilet and a cement bunk for a bed.
After his time is up on Sunday, Fossella must return for a second weekend in jail.
