Wednesday to Feel Like 104°; Prince George's Co. Schools to Close Early

Brace yourself for a steamy week. Even after storms, Wednesday's heat index is expected to reach the triple-digits.

Prince George's County Public Schools will dismiss students two hours early Wednesday because of the heat, according to the school's Twitter. The school year just started on Tuesday morning.

About 70 schools in Baltimore let students out early on Tuesday due to heat.

D.C. and surrounding counties saw relief from the heat after storms, but temperatures remained above 90 degrees through Maryland and Northern Virginia.

Temperatures in D.C. will tick back upward, Storm Team4 Chief Meteorologist Doug Kammerer said.

Wednesday will be sweltering for the whole region, with feels-like temperatures expected to hit 104 degrees.

The heat index could remain in the triple-digits through Thursday. Late Thursday evening, we'll have a cold front approach the area, increasing rain chances later that day.

Friday is still forecast to feel steamy with a high of 85 degrees.

Our weather pattern is unsettled over the weekend. Expect scattered showers through the day Friday, especially the second half, and widespread rain across both weekend days, Storm Team4 Meteorologist Sheena Parveen said. We'll also have a cooler northeast wind developing at this time, so temperatures will only be in the mid-80s Friday, then around 80 over the weekend.

Tropical Storm Gordon is heading northwest and should make landfall Tuesday night somewhere between Louisiana and Alabama. The storm still has time to strengthen to a category 1 hurricane before it hits land, and it's moving quickly.
