Father, Son Killed in D.C. Double Shooting

A man and his son were shot and killed near a hospital in the District of Columbia.

Metropolitan police Officer Araz Alali said Monday that a police officer on routine patrol found 71-year-old Preston Cornelius Johnson of Capitol Heights, Maryland, lying outside a car in the 1300 block of Southern Avenue about 9:50 p.m. Sunday. He was unresponsive and had been shot.

The officer then found Johnson's son, 49-year-old Preston Cornelius Johnson Jr., of Suitland, dead inside the car. He also had been shot.

They were about a block away from United Medical Center.

The father was retired from the Maryland Department of Environmental Services, News4's Pat Collins reported.

"It really took the holidays completely away from us," said Johnnie Law, one of his 10 children. "The New Year's coming, it took that away. At least we did get to spend Christmas with my dad, so that's a plus, but now I don't have a dad or a brother."

Police have made no arrests and are offering a $25,000 reward for information.

At a news conference Monday afternoon, police said they have not made any links between any of the shootings that have occurred since Christmas Eve.
