A falling tree limb killed a woman while she was walking along a path in Arlington, Virginia, on Thursday, police said.
The woman was walking along the 2600 block of South Walter Reed Drive near Lucky Run Park about 1:45 p.m. when a tree limb fell onto her from about 60 feet above, police said.
First responders freed the woman from under the tree limb and took her to a hospital, where she later died.
"It's tragic, especially somebody's who's out and enjoying Arlington County's great parks and services that we have here, to lose their life," said Ashley Savage, spokesperson for Arlington County Police. "This is a tragic accident but we're going to completely investigate this incident."
On Friday, relatives identified the woman as 67-year-old Louise Peabody.
"Louise Peabody was a devoted wife to her husband Maurie of over 40 years, mother of three and recent grandmother of two," the family said in a statement. "She was a recently retired CPA where she was the first woman partner at Watkins, Meegan and Drury now Coen Resnick. In her retirement, Louise had been dedicating her time to the STEM for Her program, where she actively mentored young women in middle school through college to develop skills and a love for technology and education."
The path is known as a popular area among residents, where neighbors walk their dogs and visit with family members.

A medical examiner will determine the woman's exact cause of death, officials said.
