Fairfax County officials have approved a plan to transform the traffic-clogged Tysons Corner area into a walkable, urban environment.
The Board of Supervisors voted 8-2 for the proposal following a six-hour public hearing Tuesday night, the Washington Post reported.
The blueprint will allow Tysons to become a mixed-use community with office and residential towers, sidewalk cafes and boutiques. It also calls for energy-efficient buildings, affordable housing, parks and a new street grid to replace the area's winding and chaotic roads.
A circulator bus system is planned to ferry workers, shoppers and residents among future Metro stations, offices and shopping malls.
