Emergency Drill Conducted at Southern Ave Station

An emergency response drill brought first responders to the Green Line's Southern Avenue station in Prince George's County, Maryland.

Authorities conducted an emergency response drill Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Metro said the exercise tested emergency responders' ability to evacuate a disabled train that has encountered smoke in the tunnel.

The exercise involved Metro officials as well as first responders from the District of Columbia and Prince George's County. Metro said the exercise is its seventh full-scale emergency drill since last year.

During the exercise, Green Line trains operated in two segments between Branch Avenue and Congress Heights and between Greenbelt and Congress Heights.
